The old TAC building breathes history. The wooden cases that once transported paintings from the Van Abbemuseum have become part of the building’s furniture. The lettering on the door reminds us of the grand days of Philips. Throughout its history, the building has been a home to many. Today, these spaces are a breeding ground for creative minds and audiences. And it is undergoing drastic changes.
TrACes is an immersive historical document: both a time capsule and an inspiration for TAC after its renovation. The project preserves the heritage building in the form of an online virtual space – accessible to former, current and future visitors. With the use of 360° photography (Frederike Manders) and sound(scapes) (Ursa Prek) the artists capture and preserve these overlapping histories—traces.
Frederike Manders
Educated as a photographer and animator, Frederike’s roots are in the art and design world. But she also graduated in philosophy. Perhaps a strange background for the tech world, but it now guarantees the quality of her work. In the end it is all about the message and the content. Technique should never be leading but always be used to best support a project.
With her company – Mama Producties – her versatile work combines techniques such as VR/AR to come up with innovative solutions. Having to live with epilepsy herself, projects focusing on raising awareness come to her naturally. This also entails focus on heritage in a broader sense of the word. As technology is evolving, the possibilities are growing. We have only just scratched the surface of the future.
Urša Prek
Urša (1993, Slovenia) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Eindhoven. Her work, ranging from visual art to sound (installations), focuses on the notion of space. The way we perceive space is a curiosity that drives her to reevaluate spatial experience in correlation to (personal) history and memory.
From audio, video, image and sculpture; her work is not subjected to a specific media, but is rather depending on conceptual underlay. Fluctuating between reusing archival materials, new production and ready-made is common in her always-fluid practice.
